Prof. Dr. Job Shipululo Amupanda
Biographical Note
Job Shipululo Amupanda’s research focusses on the intersection of colonial and postcolonial projects, looking primarily at how colonialism continues in post-colonial societies. In short, in decolonial scholarship his work is about ‘coloniality’. He holds a PhD in Political Studies (University of Namibia), MA in Political Science (University of Stellenbosch, South Africa), BA Honours in Political Science (University of Stellenbosch), BA Honours in History (University of South Africa) and a BA in Political Studies and History (University of Namibia). He taught political sciences at the University of Namibia from 2013 to December 2024 rising to an academic rank of associate professor. From 2016 to 2021, Professor Amupanda served as a Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. As a public intellectual, Professor Amupanda distinguishes himself from traditional intellectuals, those who divorce themselves from social struggles and maintain a distance from political functions and/or actions. Instead, he identifies with what Antonio Gramsci calls the ‘organic intellectual,’ who are linked to the masses, challenge and counterbalance the hegemonic forces. He thus participates in political processes and actions as an activist in Namibia. He has close to 30 publications ranging from books, journal articles, and academic papers.
